Course objective: to study hypermedia models of space and place

  • Landscape analysis and digital resources
    • For a glossary of art-historical terms, see the section "Anglais pour histoire de l'art" of the present website then (in the menu in the left-hand margin) "Cours et séminaires, Licence".
    • For examples of the topic of "hypermedia, landscape and architecture", revise the third-year course on cultural history , especially the sections on the websites of Stowe and Pompeii http://www.cati.paris4.sorbonne.fr then (in menu to the left select "Cours et Séminaires" then "Licence" then "histoire culturelle britannique et documentation informatisée").
    • The hypermedia options of these sites are used to render the multiple dimensions of space: panoramic effects in Stowe, corresponding to the 18th c. taste for multiple points of view

      to the right, click on "Royal Observatory Greenwich" which leads you to http://www.rog.nmm.ac.uk then in the menu to the left click on "Online Exhibits"
      then in the column of the thumbnails on the left click on the 2nd column, 4th item (as you roll over you should see the legend "Harrison and the Story of the Longitude"

    • Study the issue of the "Longitude Problem": astronomical solution vs. clockmaking
      • compare this account with that of the video "Longitude" (studied in class )
