1) DEFINITIONS OF 'EMBLEM'
Description :
Purpose : A study of notions originating in philosophy (theory of meaning, aesthetics, psychology) essential for the comprehension of the aesthetics of landscape
Method : search for key-words in databases of secondary material (journals) ; use of words of the same radical (e.g. emblematic), and thus use of 'truncation' ('emblem* ) as a search strategy. On 'truncation', see the course on 'Documentation et TIC' previously mentioned.
Question: Using the Oxford English Dictionary Online and the reference section of LION, find the definition of the word 'emblem' and derived words.

2) WEB 'BEHAVIOURS' AND THE STRUCTURING OF SPACE
Description : 'Behaviours' are the interactive events taking place on a webpage, which are options offered by web authoring software - i.e. making a new image appear at the click of a button.
This a study of their possible uses to illustrate topics in cultural history.
Question: Study the use of 'RollOver' effects and of 'Layers' as a website design device to illustrate the dynamic potentialities of the classical landscape (section 'Scene design' of the webpages).
