  • 'Metaphors' in hypermedia

One of the important concepts was that of 'metaphor': the guiding analogy between the structure of the hypermedia product and that of a real world type of classification.

    • the layout of a university: the Acolad course-management system groups the screens containing summaries of lectures in places looking like lecture-theatres, and the students' exercises in 'seminar rooms';
      • other architectural analogies : the layout of a museum, e.g. the Louvre collection...
    • a map
    • a book, with each screen like a page
