URBAN FORMS AND THE PERCEPTION OF NEGATIVE SHAPES

A cityscape is made both of buildings and of thoroughfares, of solid forms and empty spaces. When studying Georgian cities, in addition to the Classical architecture, we focused on the two motifs of the 'crescent' and the 'square': the public spaces enclosed by the buildings. In this view of the Royal Crescent in Bath, we can focus on the architecture, or on the curved street we follow.
