IRONBRIDGE
  • The Iron Bridge

A show piece of the period was the Iron Bridge, the first metallic bridge in the world erected in 1777-79 on the Severn, close to an industrial site of iron furnaces where the components were manufactured. Its purpose was both to improve transport and to demonstrate the capacities of metal construction.
